Sports Connect alternative: plan a baseball or softball league season
A baseball or softball league needs the season, the umpires and the family updates on one schedule. Play 2 Earn Sports builds the season from your own diamonds and dates, assigns one umpire to each league game, and sends a change notice to the people in a moved game, with published Starter pricing. This page works through a two-diamond example and the checks before you publish.
Starter is free for clubs with up to 10 teams.

A Sports Connect alternative, step by step
0:00 By the end of this video, you will have a plan for a baseball or softball league season. It fits your diamonds, your daylight and your families. We will cover what Sports Connect lists on its own pages, why leagues switch to Play 2 Earn Sports, a worked example and the checks before you publish. Sports Connect is a registration and management platform for youth sports.
0:22 Its public pages, checked on October sixteenth, 2026, list mobile-first registration, websites, team management, reporting, communication and scheduling. For baseball and softball, its pages list scheduling with scores and standings, and postseason brackets. Why switch? In Play 2 Earn Sports the season, the umpire on every league game and the family change notices all run on one schedule, with published plans and a free Starter tier.
Umpire scheduling on the same schedule
0:51 In Play 2 Earn Sports, the league assigns one umpire to each league game. The umpire accepts, declines or hands the game back. The picker checks the sport, the league's required level and that umpire's unavailable days. Today, if your league uses more than one umpire on a game, filling those positions stays your league's own process.
Four inputs for a diamond season
1:15 Start the method with four inputs. First, the teams in each division. Keep baseball and softball as separate divisions. Second, the diamond hours you really hold.
1:25 Third, the season dates, with the weekends you skip. Fourth, the dates each team is not available. Collect these from every club on one form, by one deadline. That one date is what keeps the first draft close to final.
A worked example: seven rounds on two diamonds
1:39 Here is a typical example. It is illustrative, not a specific league. A baseball division has eight teams. Each team plays every other team once.
1:48 That is seven rounds and twenty-eight games. Two diamonds each host three games on Saturday, at nine, half past eleven and two. That is six slots. Time one real game first, then use that number for every slot.
2:03 Each round needs four games, so every round fits on one Saturday. The league has eight playable Saturdays. Seven rounds use seven of them, and the eighth stays spare for rain. A softball division with six teams needs five rounds and fifteen games, so it leaves three Saturdays spare.
Check the diamond draft before you publish
2:21 Before you publish, count the rounds against the playable Saturdays for each division. Check that no diamond hosts two games at once, and that every team's unavailable dates are respected. Then count the early and late game times per team, and share them out by hand. Check that every league game has an umpire lined up. Then hold one spare Saturday or a spare slot for weather, give each club two days to review, and publish once.
How Play 2 Earn Sports helps a league season
2:48 Now, how Play 2 Earn Sports helps. It builds a round-robin draft with divisions, home and away balance and team availability. It checks for diamond and team double-bookings. Once you publish, the schedule is not regenerated over.
3:03 You move one game at a time, and each move runs the same clash checks before it saves. A clear move shows: Game saved. No clashes found. If your league already has a schedule, you can import it from a calendar link, then preview the games before anything is confirmed.
3:21 That is a one-way import, not a full migration. When a published, upcoming league game moves, a change notice is queued for both clubs' staff and the affected coaches. It also reaches rostered players, linked parents and any assigned umpire with an account, and updates go to the team's existing chat. Email and push depend on each account's settings, and people can opt out.
Try your own diamonds
3:45 Gather the inputs, count the slots, check the draft, and publish once. The full guide is on the page linked in the description. Try it with your own diamonds: Starter is free for clubs with up to 10 teams. Thanks for watching.
A short, neutral note on Sports Connect
Sports Connect is a youth-sports registration and management platform, part of the Stack Sports group. Its own pages, checked on 2026-10-16, list registration, websites, team management, reporting, communication tools, scheduling, online fan wear, and safety and compliance.
Why leagues switch to Play 2 Earn Sports
A league switches when it wants the season, the umpires and the family updates on one schedule. Play 2 Earn Sports gives it all three:
-
The season built from your diamonds
The schedule starts from the diamond hours you really hold, the dates you can play and the weeks you skip, not from a blank grid.
-
One umpire on every league game
The league assigns one umpire to each league game, and the fee for that game is recorded next to it.
-
Updates that reach the people in the game
When a game moves, a change notice is queued for both clubs' staff, the coaches, the rostered players, the linked parents and any assigned umpire with an account.
See every comparison on all alternatives.
Umpire scheduling: one umpire per league game
In Play 2 Earn Sports, the league assigns one umpire to each league game. The picker checks the sport, the league's required level and that umpire's unavailable days, and the umpire accepts, declines or hands the game back. The fee for that game is recorded as owed and marked paid, and the league or club pays the umpire directly; no money moves through Play 2 Earn Sports.
Today, if your league uses more than one umpire on a game, filling those positions stays your league's own process. See how umpires fit the wider season in the umpire and referee scheduling guide.
Worked example
Seven rounds on two diamonds
Illustrative example, not a specific league.
A community league runs a fall season of eight playable Saturdays. It has two baseball diamonds (A and B) and one smaller diamond (C) for softball.
What each division needs. A single round robin with n teams needs n × (n − 1) ÷ 2 games.
| Division | Teams | Games each | Games in total | Rounds | Games per round |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Baseball | 8 | 7 | 28 | 7 | 4 |
| Softball | 6 | 5 | 15 | 5 | 3 |
What the diamonds hold. A game window of two hours plus a half-hour changeover gives three games a day per diamond.
| Diamonds | Game times | Slots per Saturday | Slots over 8 Saturdays |
|---|---|---|---|
| A and B (baseball) | 9:00, 11:30, 2:00 | 2 × 3 = 6 | 48 |
| C (softball) | 9:00, 11:30, 2:00 | 1 × 3 = 3 | 24 |
Capacity check. Baseball needs four games a round, and six slots are free each Saturday, so every round fits on one Saturday with two slots to spare. Seven rounds use seven of the eight Saturdays, and the eighth stays spare for rain. Softball needs three games a round on its own diamond, so five rounds use five Saturdays. Both divisions finish inside the same eight-week window.
Arithmetic, twice. Baseball: 8 × 7 ÷ 2 = 28 games; 28 ÷ 4 = 7 rounds; 7 rounds ≤ 8 Saturdays. Softball: 6 × 5 ÷ 2 = 15 games; 15 ÷ 3 = 5 rounds; 5 rounds ≤ 8 Saturdays. Total games: 28 + 15 = 43. Total slots held: 48 + 24 = 72. 43 ≤ 72, so the season fits with room for make-ups.
If a league has an odd number of teams, one team rests each round and the division needs one extra round; the odd-number-of-teams guide walks through it.
The checklist before you publish
Checklist: before you publish a diamond season
- Rounds counted against playable Saturdays, for each division.
- No diamond hosts two games at once, changeover included.
- Late games finish in daylight, or the diamond has lights.
- Every team's unavailable dates respected.
- Each baseball and softball division built with its own slot length.
- One umpire lined up for every league game.
- Early and late game times counted per team and shared out by hand.
- At least one spare Saturday or spare slot held for weather.
Then give each club two days to review its own teams, fix what they find, and publish once.
In Play 2 Earn Sports
How Play 2 Earn Sports supports a baseball or softball league
Play 2 Earn Sports gives a league tools for the league office, and for the season itself it can build the league draft automatically from the inputs above.
-
Diamonds as they really are
Each venue and diamond has its own availability windows, a buffer between games and date-specific exceptions, such as shorter evenings late in the season.
-
Days and times the league sets
The league sets the allowed game days and the earliest and latest game times.
-
A round-robin draft
League auto-scheduling builds the season with round robin, divisions, home and away balance and team availability, and checks for diamond and team double-bookings. You review the draft before publishing.
-
Blocked dates
Clubs can block holidays, closures and tournament weekends on their teams, venues and diamonds, and the scheduler keeps games out of those periods.
-
Team preferences
Clubs can set each team's preferred days, time window, minimum rest hours and spacing. The scheduler weighs these as soft preferences, so it is still worth reviewing early and late game times by team.
-
Published means protected
A published or locked schedule is not regenerated over. Moving one game runs the same clash checks, and a clear move shows "Game saved. No clashes found."
-
Bring your schedule across
A league can import your current schedule from a calendar link, preview the games, and confirm. That is a one-way import of games, not a full migration.
-
Change notices
When a published, upcoming league game moves, a change notice is queued for both clubs' staff, the affected coaches, rostered players, linked parents and any assigned umpire with an account, and updates go to the team's existing chat. Email and push depend on each account's settings, and people can opt out.
-
Umpires and fees
The league assigns one umpire to each league game, with sport, level and availability checks; the umpire accepts, declines or hands the game back. The game's fee is recorded as owed and marked paid, and the league or club pays the umpire directly.
-
Families and practices
Practices, RSVPs, announcements and team chat, in an app that installs from the website on iPhone and Android, for 18 sports.
See your season built from your own diamonds.
Team communication for baseball and softball
Each team has Team, Coaches and Parents channels. Players, coaches and chat-enabled staff post in Team; coaches post in Coaches; coaches and guardians post in Parents. A private adult-to-minor chat brings a parent or guardian into the conversation until the player turns 18. Players under 14 can only DM teammates. Messages can be reported or blocked.
When a team event, team game or club game changes, affected families get in-app, email and push notices by default, and can opt out of event email and push. Install the app from the website on iPhone and Android, with no app store needed.
Starter is free for clubs with up to 10 teams. Read more about the sports team communication app.
Questions
Frequentlyasked questions
Play 2 Earn Sports builds the league season from your diamonds and dates, checks for double-bookings, assigns one umpire to each league game and keeps families updated in one place, with published Starter pricing.
Yes. In Play 2 Earn Sports the league assigns one umpire to each league game, and the picker checks the sport, the league's required level and that umpire's unavailable days. The umpire accepts, declines or hands the game back.
Use the import: paste a calendar link, preview the games, and confirm. Play 2 Earn Sports imports one way from a calendar link, so your existing dates come across without rebuilding them. It is a games import, not a full account migration.
When a published, upcoming league game moves, a change notice is queued for both clubs' staff, the affected coaches, rostered players, linked parents and any assigned umpire with an account, and updates go to the team's existing chat. Email and push depend on each account's settings.
Yes, one umpire per league game. The picker checks the sport, the league's required level and the umpire's unavailable days, and the umpire accepts, declines or hands the game back. Today, if a game needs more than one umpire, filling those positions stays your league's own process.
It depends on your teams and your Saturdays. In a single round robin, each team plays one fewer game than the number of teams, so an eight-team division plays seven games each, or twenty-eight games in all, over seven rounds. Count playable Saturdays before you promise more.
Yes. Keep them as separate divisions, give each its own slot length and its own diamonds or time block, and count rounds against Saturdays for each one. The two divisions can share one published season and one set of family updates, which keeps the whole league on a single schedule.
