The schedule maker
Build your league schedule
Enter your teams, pick a single or double round robin, then add a start date, the weekdays you play, how many fields you have, the game times each day and any blackout dates to skip. The schedule maker places every round on real dates and slots, with one game per team per day. Copy, print or download the result as a CSV. No account needed: it runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent or saved. Only need the pairings? Use the round robin generator.
League schedule fixtures
Set your teams, dates, fields and game times, then choose Make the schedule.
Turn this into a live season schedule with game-change notifications for your teams.
Build it in Play 2 Earn with notificationsCheck the result by date and by field: no team should appear twice on the same day, and no field should host two games in one slot. If the last date runs past your season, add a game day or a field rather than squeezing games in. The capacity table below shows why.
Pairings vs schedule
A round robin is not a schedule yet
A round robin tells you who plays whom. A league schedule tells every coach and family when and where: the date, the kick-off time and the field. Most of the work, and nearly every complaint, lives in that second step. Pairings never change once they are fair; dates and slots change all season.
Turning pairings into dates comes down to one comparison: the games each round needs against the game slots you have on a playing day. Get that right and the rest is placement. Get it wrong and the season runs into the holidays, or teams play three games in eight days to catch up.
Before you generate
Six inputs for a league schedule
Collect these first. A schedule built on guesses gets rebuilt in week two.
-
Teams and format
How many teams in each division, and whether they meet once (single round robin) or twice, home and away (double). The round robin generator shows the rounds and games for 3 to 16 teams.
-
Start date and end date
The first playing day and the last date the season can run to, including any playoff weekend you need to keep clear.
-
Game days
The weekdays you play, such as Saturdays only, or Tuesday and Thursday evenings plus Saturday mornings.
-
Fields and slots
Every field, court or rink you hold, and the kick-off times each can host. Slot length is game length plus warm-up and changeover: 90-minute games with 15 minutes between them start 9:00, 10:45 and 12:30.
-
Blackout dates
Holidays, school events, venue closures and tournament weekends when the league cannot play.
-
Makeup dates
At least one date held back, with nothing scheduled, for games lost to weather or a closed field.
Capacity
How many game days do you need?
Divide the games in a round by the slots you have per playing day, round up, and you have days per round. Multiply by the number of rounds for the length of the season. The table keeps each round together, so every team has played the same number of games at any point.
| Teams | Games per round | Rounds | 1 field, 3 slots a day | 2 fields, 3 slots each |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 3 | 5 | 5 days | 5 days |
| 7 | 3 (plus a bye) | 7 | 7 days | 7 days |
| 8 | 4 | 7 | 14 days | 7 days |
| 10 | 5 | 9 | 18 days | 9 days |
| 12 | 6 | 11 | 22 days | 11 days |
Notice the jump at eight teams. Four games a round do not fit in three slots, so each round takes two days and two slots sit empty every round. Splitting rounds across days finishes in at least 10 days instead of 14, but teams then have different numbers of games played mid-season, which muddies the standings. A second field, or a fourth slot, removes the problem.
Run this check before you promise families a season length. If the numbers do not fit, change the format, add slots or find another field.
Worked example
Six teams, one field, five Saturdays
A six-team division plays a single round robin on one field with three Saturday slots, starting Saturday, May 1, 2027. The league blacks out May 22 and holds June 12 as a makeup date. The pairings are the six-team table from the round robin generator page, with the home team listed first.
| Date | 9:00 | 10:45 | 12:30 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sat, May 1 (round 1) | A vs F | B vs E | C vs D |
| Sat, May 8 (round 2) | D vs F | B vs C | E vs A |
| Sat, May 15 (round 3) | C vs E | A vs D | F vs B |
| Sat, May 22 | Blackout: no games | ||
| Sat, May 29 (round 4) | B vs D | E vs F | C vs A |
| Sat, June 5 (round 5) | A vs B | F vs C | D vs E |
| Sat, June 12 | Makeup date: kept open |
Three things were done on purpose. The blackout moves round 4 a week later instead of squeezing it into a midweek evening. The slots are rotated so no team has the 9:00 game more than twice. And the makeup date sits at the end, where a lost Saturday can be replayed without shifting every later round.
Add a seventh team and the season grows to seven rounds of three games with one bye each week; the bye slot becomes a home for a makeup game. Add a second field instead and each round fits in a morning, freeing the afternoon for a second division.
Constraints
What breaks a league schedule
Pairings are maths; dates are negotiation. These are the constraints that turn a clean draft into a week of emails, and how organizers usually handle them.
-
Blackout dates
Collect them before the draft, not after. Treat a blackout as a whole round moving, so every team stays on the same number of games.
-
Shared fields
When two divisions share a field, give each division fixed slots, or schedule the division with fewer options first.
-
Rest and travel
Midweek leagues need a rule such as one rest day between games. Check teams with long trips do not get three away games in a row.
-
Early and late slots
Rotate the first and last kick-offs so the same team is not always up early or home late. Give the youngest teams the earliest finish.
-
Shared coaches
A coach with two teams needs their games in different slots. Ask every coach for their other teams before you build the draft.
-
Permits and daylight
Check the permit end time and, outdoors, when the light goes. A slot that starts at dusk in spring may be dark by autumn.
Rainouts
When weather takes a game day
Plan for rainouts before the first one. Hold at least one makeup date, more for an outdoor spring season, and decide in advance who calls a game off, by what time and where the call is published. Families forgive a cancellation; they do not forgive driving to a closed field.
When a day is lost, move games, not rounds. The pairings stay valid; only the dates change. Use the makeup date first, then bye slots and any spare field time. Replay games that affect the standings before friendlies, and confirm the field before you announce a new time. Mark a rescheduled game as provisional until it is firm.
In Play 2 Earn Sports, moving, postponing or cancelling a game tells the people on both teams, including linked parents, coaches and the assigned referee, in the app, by email, by push where enabled and in team chat. Changes made within two minutes are bundled into one notice, and a change less than three hours before kick-off goes out at once.
Choose the right tool
Spreadsheet, schedule maker or software?
A free schedule maker is the right tool for a one-off season with a few teams. Once the schedule has to absorb changes and reach families, league scheduling software does the work a file cannot.

FAQ
League schedulequestions
A round robin generator decides who plays whom in each round. A league schedule maker also decides when and where: it puts each round on a date, a kick-off time and a field. Start with the round robin generator if you only need pairings.
For a single round robin with one game day a week, you need one week per round when your slots fit a whole round, and more when they do not. Eight teams on one field with three slots need 14 weeks if rounds stay together, or 7 with a second field. Add makeup weeks on top.
Collect blackout dates before you build the draft, then move whole rounds past them rather than single games, so every team stays level on games played. The free schedule maker on this page skips any blackout dates you enter. Play 2 Earn Sports also records blackout dates such as holidays and venue closures, and its generator schedules around them.
Rotate the slots each week so no team always has the first or the last game, then count each team's early and late games before you publish. In the worked example, no team has the 9:00 game more than twice in five weeks.
Use the makeup date first, then bye slots and spare field time. Keep the pairings and move the games, replay games that affect the standings first, confirm the field before announcing, and send one clear notice per change. In Play 2 Earn Sports, moving a game tells both teams' players, linked parents, coaches and the assigned referee automatically.
Yes, with planning. Give each division fixed slots, or schedule the most constrained division first. In Play 2 Earn Sports each division is generated as its own league schedule, and a field booked twice at overlapping times is flagged so you can fix it.
Yes. The schedule maker on this page is free, and no account is needed: it runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent or saved. Copy, print or download your schedule as a CSV. For change notices, referees and a schedule every team can see in the app, look at Play 2 Earn Sports; Starter is free for clubs with up to 10 teams and leagues with up to 10 clubs.
Yes, for signed-in league organizers. The scheduling wizard takes season dates, teams, venues, allowed weekdays and start times, previews the number of fixtures and generates a single or double round robin for the division, placed on your fields' available times.
