How it works
How a round robin is built
The circle method
Write the teams in two rows facing each other. Each pair of opposite teams is a game. Keep one team fixed and move every other team one place round the circle, and the next round's games appear. After one round fewer than the number of teams, every team has met every other team exactly once. That is the method this generator uses, and it is why the same team count always gives a schedule of the same shape.
Odd numbers and byes
With an odd number of teams, one team has no opponent in each round. The generator adds a "BYE" seat to the circle, so the schedule takes one extra round and every team sits out exactly once in a single round robin (twice in a double). A bye is shown as its own row so nobody misses that they are off that week.
Home and away
Home and away follow a fixed pattern (the Berger table): the fixed team alternates every round and the other games swap sides by their place in the circle. Each team's home and away counts differ by at most one, and within each cycle no team plays three home or three away games in a row. If your league has no home venues, read "home" as the team listed first, the one that wears its home kit or takes the first serve.
Single or double round robin
A double round robin plays the whole schedule twice; the second half repeats the first with home and away swapped, so every pair meets once at each end. It doubles the games, rounds and weeks shown above, and suits leagues that want a longer season without inventing a different format.
From rounds to dates
Rounds are not dates yet. To put them on a calendar with your game days, fields or courts, game times and blackout dates (holidays, tournaments, closed venues), use the league schedule maker. It keeps every team to one game per day and keeps the rounds in order. Change the team count or names any time in the round robin generator.
Running the season
A printed table is fine until the first rainout. When games move, teams and families need to hear about it from one place; that is what sports scheduling software is for: league and team schedules, field conflicts and game-change notices in one app.
