A lacrosse season that runs smoothly
0:00 By the end of this video, you will know what a lacrosse team app should do for your team. You will also have a simple weekly routine and a fair way to share the minutes. We will follow the lacrosse coach's week. The calendar, who is coming, the lineup and lines, attendance, team messages and game changes.
What should a lacrosse team app do?
0:21 A good lacrosse team app does four jobs. It keeps one calendar. It collects clear answers about who is coming. It helps you set a lineup on a field.
0:30 And it keeps team messages in safe, separate channels. Start with the calendar. Put practices, games and tournament weekends in one place that families open on web and phone. Field and box seasons can overlap, so one shared calendar is easier to trust than three copies.
Who is coming on Saturday?
0:48 Ask for availability early in the week. Players and parents answer Going, Maybe or Can't go. You see the counts and the names. By Thursday, you know who you are planning for.
1:00 If a few answers are missing on Thursday, send one friendly reminder. Then call the families you still have not heard from. A short call is often quicker than another message.
Lineups by format and unit
1:10 Lacrosse plays several formats. There is field lacrosse outdoors, box lacrosse on an indoor floor, and smaller-sided games for younger players. Check your league's rules for your age group. Then build the lineup from who is coming, not from the full roster.
1:26 In ten-a-side field lacrosse, a goalie plays behind three defenders, three midfielders and three attackers. Midfielders run the most, so many coaches rotate them in lines of three.
A worked example: a field lacrosse Saturday
1:38 Here is a typical example. It is illustrative, not a specific club. An under-fourteen field lacrosse team has sixteen players. By Thursday, fourteen are going, one is a maybe and one has answered Can't go.
1:51 The maybe is a defender, and the player who is away is an attacker. The game is four quarters of ten minutes. Split it into eight blocks of five minutes. Ten spots on the field times eight blocks is eighty playing blocks.
2:06 Plan by unit. Three midfield spots times eight blocks is twenty-four. Six midfielders make two lines of three, so each plays four blocks, or twenty minutes. The two goalies take a half each.
2:19 With three defenders, each one plays all eight blocks. On Friday, the maybe becomes a yes. Now four defenders share the twenty-four blocks, so each plays six. Four times six is twenty-four. Attack stays at eight blocks each.
RSVP and attendance are different
2:33 After the game, mark attendance. The RSVP is the plan. Attendance is the record of who came: present, late, absent or excused. Keeping both helps you spot patterns early and kindly.
When the game time changes
2:47 Lacrosse fields are often shared with other sports, and game times move. When a time changes, change it in one place first. Then say it once, in the team's own channel, so families find the new time in one spot.
How Play 2 Earn Sports helps a lacrosse team
3:01 Now, how Play 2 Earn Sports helps a lacrosse team. Coaches and club admins use the same lineup builder. Lacrosse gets a squad and field view, so you can set the lineup on the field. Players and parents answer Going, Maybe or Can't go, and you see counts and names.
3:18 A coach can send one manual in-app reminder per item, at most once every twenty-four hours. Coaches and club staff mark attendance separately. Each team has Team, Coaches and Parents channels. Guardians can read their child's Team channel.
3:34 When a team event, team game or club game changes, affected families get in-app, email and push notices by default. They can opt out of event email and push. Keep one calendar, ask early, plan the minutes by unit, and mark attendance after the game. The full guide is on the page linked in the description.

The lacrosse coach's week
| Day | Job |
|---|---|
| Sunday or Monday | Check the week's practices, games and any tournament weekend in the calendar. |
| Monday | Ask for availability for the weekend's game. |
| Thursday | Count answers by unit (goalies, defense, midfield, attack); one friendly reminder; a quick call to anyone still missing. |
| Friday | Draft the lineup, the midfield lines and the minutes from who is coming. |
| Saturday | Game day; mark attendance after the game. |
| Sunday | Note any minutes to balance next week. |
Step 1
Ask early, count by unit on Thursday
Ask for availability at the start of the week. By Thursday, you know who you are planning for. In lacrosse, count by unit as well as in total: two missing defenders change the plan more than two missing midfielders. If a few answers are missing, send one friendly reminder, then call the families you still have not heard from.
Step 2
Formats and units
Lacrosse plays several formats: field lacrosse outdoors, box lacrosse on an indoor floor, and smaller-sided games for younger players. Team sizes differ between formats, and girls' and boys' lacrosse use different numbers on the field. Check your league's rules for your age group, including substitutions.
Illustrative layouts, not rules:
| Format | On the field or floor | A simple layout |
|---|---|---|
| Field lacrosse, ten a side | Goalie + 9 | 3 defense, 3 midfield, 3 attack (3 + 3 + 3 = 9) |
| Box lacrosse | Goalie + 5 | Units change on the fly; plan lines of five |
| Small-sided youth games | Varies by age | Follow your league's age-group format |
Midfielders run the most, so many coaches rotate them in lines of three. For the organizer's side of a tournament weekend, see the lacrosse tournament format.
Worked example
A field lacrosse Saturday, planned by unit
Illustrative example, not a specific club. Check your league's substitution rules before you plan blocks.
An under-fourteen field lacrosse team has sixteen players: two goalies, four attackers, four defenders and six midfielders (2 + 4 + 4 + 6 = 16). By Thursday, fourteen are going, one is a maybe and one has answered Can't go (14 + 1 + 1 = 16). The maybe is a defender, and the player who is away is an attacker.
The plan. The game is four quarters of ten minutes. The coach splits it into eight blocks of five minutes and plans each unit separately.
| Unit | Spots × blocks | Players going | Blocks each |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goalie | 1 × 8 = 8 | 2 | 4 (a half each) |
| Defense | 3 × 8 = 24 | 3 | 8 (the full game) |
| Midfield | 3 × 8 = 24 | 6 (two lines of three) | 4 (twenty minutes) |
| Attack | 3 × 8 = 24 | 3 | 8 (the full game) |
| Total | 10 × 8 = 80 | 14 | 8 + 24 + 24 + 24 = 80 |
The maybe says yes. On Friday, the maybe defender becomes a yes. Now four defenders share the twenty-four defense blocks, so each plays six (4 × 6 = 24), or thirty minutes. Each defender rests two blocks; the coach writes down who rests when so no defender sits twice in a row. Attack stays at eight blocks each; if your attackers need a breather, a midfielder can step up for a block and the sums still add to eighty.
Step 3
RSVP and attendance are different
The RSVP is the plan. Attendance is the record of who came: present, late, absent or excused. Keeping both helps you spot patterns early and kindly, such as a player who often says yes but arrives after warm-up, and start a friendly conversation with the family.
Step 4
When the game time changes
Lacrosse fields are often shared with other sports, and game times move. Change the time in one place first, then say it once in the team's own channel. Families should find the new time in one spot, not across three threads. Families with children in two sports can also see how multi-sport clubs keep one calendar.

How Play 2 Earn Sports supports a lacrosse team
Play 2 Earn Sports is one team app for the whole team, inside the club. For lacrosse:
-
One calendar
The team and club calendar shows games, practices and events on web and phone.
-
A squad and field view
Coaches and club admins use the same lineup builder, and lacrosse gets a squad and field view.
-
Who is coming
Players and parents answer Going, Maybe or Can't go, and coaches see counts and names. A coach can send one manual in-app reminder per item, at most once every 24 hours.
-
Attendance
Coaches and club staff mark attendance (present, late, absent, excused), separately from RSVPs.
-
Channels
Each team has Team, Coaches and Parents channels. Players, coaches and chat-enabled staff post in Team; coaches post in Coaches; coaches and guardians post in Parents. Guardians can read their child's Team channel. A private adult-to-minor chat brings a parent or guardian into the conversation until the player turns 18, and players under 14 can only DM teammates.
-
Changes
When a team event, team game or club game changes, affected families get in-app, email and push notices by default. Families can opt out of event email and push.
-
Practices
Practices can be created with a location. Repeating practices are set up through the club's event tools.
-
On the phone
The app installs from the website on iPhone and Android. Tap Turn on notifications to get notices on the phone; on iPhone, add it to the Home Screen first.
Today, the minutes plan by unit is your team's plan on paper; the lineup builder holds the lineup on the field. For the league's side of the season, see lacrosse league scheduling software.

Check your league's format and team size for the age group, count who is coming by unit, then set the goalie, defense, midfield and attack. Many coaches run midfield lines of three. In Play 2 Earn Sports, the lineup builder gives lacrosse a squad and field view.
Plan by unit. Multiply each unit's spots by the blocks, then divide by the players in that unit. In the example above, three midfield spots times eight blocks is twenty-four, so six midfielders get four blocks each. Check your league's substitution rules first.
Ask early in the week. Players and parents answer Going, Maybe or Can't go, and you see the counts and names. A coach can send one manual in-app reminder per item, at most once every 24 hours.
Yes. The calendar, answers, channels and attendance work the same for field and box teams. The lineup builder shows lacrosse on a field view, and you set the players who are on the floor.
