A team app built for sport

0:00 By the end of this video, you will know what a sports team needs from its app, beyond a group feed. You will see what a team gets from Play 2 Earn Sports, and how to move across. Here is the plan. What a team gets from Play 2 Earn Sports, a short note on BAND, five questions for a sports team app, a worked example, and moving across.

What a team gets from Play 2 Earn Sports

0:21 Start with the lineup. Coaches and club admins use the same lineup builder, on your sport's own surface. Basketball and volleyball get a court. Soccer and rugby get a pitch.

0:33 Hockey gets a rink, and baseball gets a diamond. The league schedule lives in the same app. When a league runs on Play 2 Earn Sports, auto-scheduling builds the season with round robin, divisions, home and away balance, and venue-conflict checks. The team and club calendar then shows games, practices and events on web and phone.

0:53 Players and parents answer Going, Maybe or Can't go, and coaches see counts and names. After the game, coaches and club staff mark attendance: present, late, absent or excused. The plan and the record stay separate. Each team has Team, Coaches and Parents channels.

1:14 A private adult-to-minor chat brings a parent or guardian into the conversation until the player turns eighteen. Players under fourteen can only message teammates directly, and messages can be reported or blocked. When a published, upcoming league game moves, a change notice is queued. It goes to both clubs' staff, affected coaches, rostered players, linked parents and any assigned referee with an account. Updates go to existing team chats, and email and push depend on each account's settings.

BAND, in one short note

1:46 Now a short, neutral note. On the eighteenth of October, BAND described itself as a free group app for teams, schools and organizations. Its page lists posts, shared calendars, chat and files.

Five questions for a sports team app

1:58 Now five questions to ask of any team app. One: can you set the lineup on your sport's own surface? Two: is the league schedule in the same place as the team? Three: are answers and attendance kept separately?

2:12 Four: when a league game moves, who hears about it, and how? Five: does a guardian join private chats between adults and young players? Write the answers down, and test one team for a week.

A worked example: a ten-team league

2:23 Here is a typical example. It is illustrative, not a specific league. A youth soccer league has ten teams, and every team plays each other team once. Ten teams times nine opponents, divided by two, is forty-five games.

2:38 Each round has five games, so the season needs nine rounds. The league builds it once, and every team sees its own games. One team in that league has twelve players. By Thursday, ten are going, one is a maybe and one is away.

2:53 Seven start on the pitch, and three wait on the bench. The coach sets it on the pitch view. On Friday, the field closes after heavy rain, and the league moves the game to Sunday afternoon. The move runs the same clash checks before it saves. A change notice is queued for the people in that game, and updates go to the existing team chat.

Moving your team across

3:14 Moving in is the easy part. Import your season from a calendar link, with a preview before anything is confirmed. A roster sheet brings your players across, one way in. Club staff then invite players by email, and guardians are linked to their children.

3:29 Agree a date when the old group goes quiet, and say it once. Name one person who answers family questions. Today, old posts and files stay in the old app, so keep any records your club needs. Families install the app from the website on iPhone and Android.

3:47 On iPhone, they add it to the Home Screen first, then tap Turn on notifications. Live schedule and chat updates need a connection. Lineups on your sport's surface, the league schedule, clear answers and safe chat, in one team app. The full guide is on the page linked in the description.

4:01 Coaching one team? Start a free club account for your team. Starter is free for clubs with up to 10 teams. Thanks for watching.

What a sports team gets from Play 2 Earn Sports

  1. Lineups on your sport's surface

Coaches and club admins use the same lineup builder. Team sports get a squad view on their own surface:

| Sport | Surface | |---|---| | Basketball, Volleyball | Court | | Soccer, Rugby | Pitch | | Hockey | Rink | | Baseball | Diamond | | American Football | Gridiron | | Field Hockey, Lacrosse | Field |

Individual sports get an event-lineup view.

  1. The league schedule, in the same app. When the league runs on Play 2 Earn Sports, league auto-scheduling builds the season with round robin, divisions, home and away balance, team availability and venue-conflict checks. The team and club calendar shows games, practices and events on web and phone.
  2. Clear answers, and a real attendance record. Players and parents answer Going, Maybe or Can't go, and coaches see counts and names. Coaches and club staff mark attendance (present, late, absent, excused), separately from RSVPs.
  3. Team chat with safe-sport rules. Team, Coaches and Parents channels. A private adult-to-minor chat brings a parent or guardian in until the player turns 18; players under 14 can only message teammates directly; messages can be reported or blocked.
  4. A change notice when a league game moves. A notice is queued for both clubs' staff, affected coaches, rostered players, linked parents and any assigned referee with an account.
  5. Team stats. Teams can keep player stats. Staff entries publish right away; player-entered stats publish after two teammate confirmations.

Five questions to ask of any sports team app

  1. Can you set the lineup on your sport's own surface?

A court, a pitch, a rink or a diamond, not a list in a post. In Play 2 Earn Sports, the lineup builder uses your sport's surface.

  2. Is the league schedule in the same place as the team?

In Play 2 Earn Sports, when the league schedules there, each published game is added to both teams' calendars.

  3. Are answers and attendance kept separately?

The answer is the plan; attendance is who came. Play 2 Earn Sports keeps both.

  4. When a league game moves, who hears about it, and how?

In Play 2 Earn Sports, a change notice is queued for both clubs' staff, affected coaches, rostered players, linked parents and any assigned referee with an account, and updates go to existing team chats. Email and push depend on each account's settings, and people can opt out.

  5. Does a guardian join private chats between adults and young players?

In Play 2 Earn Sports, yes, until the player turns 18.

Write the answers down for each option, then test one team for a week with real games and real messages.

Worked example

A ten-team soccer league and one team's week

Illustrative example, not a specific league.

The league. A youth soccer league has ten teams, and every team plays each other team once.

Worked example — a ten-team soccer league and one team's week
CheckSum
Games in the season 10 × 9 ÷ 2 = 45
Games in each round (ten teams, two per game) 10 ÷ 2 = 5
Rounds 45 ÷ 5 = 9

The league builds the season once with auto-scheduling. When it publishes, each game is added to both teams' calendars, so every team sees its own nine games.

One team's week. One team plays seven-a-side and has twelve players. By Thursday, ten are going, one is a maybe and one is away (10 + 1 + 1 = 12). Seven start on the pitch and three wait on the bench (10 − 7 = 3). The coach sets the starting seven on the pitch view and shares the plan in the Team channel. If the maybe says yes on Friday, four wait on the bench (11 − 7 = 4).

The game moves. On Friday, the field closes after heavy rain, and the league moves the game to Sunday afternoon. The move runs the same clash checks (field, team, blocked dates, season dates, travel) before it saves. A change notice is queued for both clubs' staff, affected coaches, rostered players, linked parents and any assigned referee with an account, and updates go to the existing team chat.

Moving your team across

  1. Bring the season

Import your season from a calendar link, with a preview before anything is confirmed.

  2. Bring the players

A roster CSV brings your players across, one way in. Club staff invite players by email, and guardians are linked to their children.

  3. Pick a switch date

Agree the day the old group goes quiet, and say it once.

  4. Name one helper

for family questions during the move.

  5. Install on phones

The app installs from the website on iPhone and Android. On iPhone, add it to the Home Screen first, then tap Turn on notifications.

Today, the import brings the season and the roster, not old posts or files. Keep any records your club needs in the club's own files.

A checklist before the switch

Checklist: moving a sports team to a team app

  1. Five questions answered in writing.
  2. Your sport's surface checked in the lineup builder.
  3. League schedule source agreed: the league schedules in Play 2 Earn Sports, or the club imports the season from a calendar link.
  4. One test team for a week, with a coach and one parent giving feedback.
  5. Roster brought across; players invited; guardians linked.
  6. Switch date for the old group agreed and said once.
  7. Families shown how to install the app and turn on notifications.
  8. Records from the old group kept in the club's own files.

How Play 2 Earn Sports supports a sports team

Play 2 Earn Sports is club management software with a team app inside it, for 18 sports. See the team app for a full tour.

  • Lineups

Coaches and club admins use the same lineup builder, on the sport's surface.

  • Schedule

The team and club calendar shows games, practices and events on web and phone. Practices can be created with a location; repeating practices are set up through the club's event tools.

  • League side

League auto-scheduling builds a season with round robin, divisions, home and away balance, team availability and venue-conflict checks; a field or team booked twice is flagged. A published or locked schedule is not regenerated over. See sports league scheduling software.

  • Who is coming

Going, Maybe or Can't go, with counts and names. A coach can send one manual in-app reminder per item, at most once every 24 hours.

  • Attendance

Present, late, absent or excused, marked by coaches and club staff, separate from RSVPs.

  • Chat

Team, Coaches and Parents channels; guardians can read their child's Team channel; a private adult-to-minor chat brings a guardian in until 18; under 14, teammates only; report or block. Photos, short video, GIFs and voice notes are stored privately. For more, see the team chat app.

  • Team and club changes

When a team event, team game or club game changes, affected families get in-app, email and push notices by default, and can opt out of event email and push.

  • Stats

Staff entries publish right away; player-entered stats publish after two teammate confirmations.
